What is Chicken and Fish?

Chicken and fish is a collaboration between two Native Hawaiian artists who live and work in the windward O'ahu area.  The goal of Chicken and Fish is to provide private residence and business owners a beautiful, colorful, original piece of artwork in mural form.  Part of our mission is graffiti prevention and beautification of derelict walls and surfaces that attract graffiti, through the art process. We wish to spread aloha and positive feelings to all viewers and give neighborhoods a piece of art that they can enjoy looking at and feel good about.  Creativity can be a powerful force in life, as is destruction.  We strive to find the balance of creative energies and destructive tendencies, and by replacing these empty canvases with images for all to see and relate to, we believe the senseless destruction of wall surfaces will stop.  The stress, frustration and time wasted on clean up of graffiti will be eliminated.  Another important mission of chicken and fish is to trigger an appreciation for art in kids, by filling empty spaces and blank concrete walls with beautiful art instead of graffiti and vandalism.  We believe a nation, state, or even small town needs to have public art to feed the minds, imaginations and hearts of the keiki.  With schools increasing cuts in their art and music programs, our children are losing a very important spark and critical problem solving skills that creative activities normally engage.  By producing these pieces of work in the open, during the day, we have an open dialogue with the community and the chance to work with and share knowledge with the future generations of artists -hopefully guiding them in a direction that will prove positive for them and the community, adding to the cycle of art that inspires the world.
